Industry News from SFMA – A Lot Going On This Autumn

One of SFMA’s tasks is to spread research results, and during the autumn the association continues its work with newsletters, a sustainability survey, statistics, research initiatives and competence supply activities for the industry.

One of SFMA’s tasks is to spread research results, and the association has recently published a newsletter summarising all 39 presentations from the SICFP conference in Linköping in June. The aim is to help people in the industry find useful insights and explore them further. During the autumn, SFMA also plans to publish a similar newsletter with summaries from the conference in Hudiksvall held the previous year.

The sustainability survey previously mentioned is now being sent out to members. The results will be used to show how the hydraulics industry is working with sustainability issues and driving development towards a more climate-smart industry.

The next CETOP Market Outlook will take place in November, and SFMA members will be invited via Teams. To provide more in-depth figures from Sweden, SFMA has restarted the statistics group that previously existed within the association. Those who attended the last CETOP market meeting found it very interesting and hope more members will take part in November.

The research working group is participating in an EU initiative aimed at building an academic cluster in hydraulics. Linköping University is participating from Sweden, and SFMA has offered to support the cluster and help look for funding, for example through Vinnova. During the autumn, the group also plans to interview members in order to identify research needs and pass them on to academic contacts. In addition, they are planning an AI day where Professor Petter Krus from Linköping University has been invited to give a presentation.

The competence supply group is working on updating SFMA’s website and continuing the development of “Anders låda,” now in version 2.0. They are planning a Motion Race 2.0 in Luleå to inspire mechanical engineering students to take a greater interest in electronics and programming. At the autumn meeting, the group will also present SFMA’s scholarship for the best degree project in hydraulics, and during the autumn they will also attend KTH’s career fair MOMENT.

The knowledge group is planning three webinars during the autumn. The first, held by Parker, focuses on safety in electronic vehicle control. The second focuses on CO2 calculations, with RISE training members in different calculation tools. The third webinar will discuss digital hydraulics and electrification and will be held by Perry Y. Li, professor at the University of Minnesota.

Finally, Jan Nilsson highlights SFMA’s autumn meeting on 21–22 October in Hudiksvall. Participants will receive a presentation on the Hudiksvall Hydraulics Cluster by Paul Bogatir, decide on the budget and operational plan for 2026, and make a study visit to Huddig. He also emphasises the value of networking with industry colleagues.

Jan Nilsson, Chairman of SFMA.
