In Memory of Bertil Andersson – Founder of Fluid Scandinavia

Bertil Andersson, who three decades ago together with Gunnar Sandkvist and the ITH Foundation founded ITH Förlag AB, the publisher of around 120 issues of Fluid Scandinavia, has passed away at the age of 84. He served as editor-in-chief of the magazine for twenty years, until 2014.

After nearly three decades in the field of fluid power, Bertil had built up a wide professional network. In the autumn of 1993, he founded HMAB Hydraulik & Miljöteknik AB with the ambition of contributing to the development of hydraulics through consulting work and the arrangement of symposia. He was deeply committed to the development of the industry, particularly in issues related to research and education, and served both as board member and chairman in industry associations.

Starting his own company gave him more time to realise an idea he had carried for many years: creating a Swedish or Scandinavian trade magazine in hydraulics and pneumatics. The ITH Foundation shared that vision, and together with Gunnar Sandkvist the publishing project was launched in 1995. Bertil Andersson then became editor-in-chief of the magazine for twenty years.

Outside his professional life, he was strongly involved in music, community associations and sailing. He played brass instruments, mainly tuba, was active in orchestra life for decades, and also served in financial roles within cultural and church organisations in Järfälla. Sailing was another of his great passions, and after obtaining his skipper’s certificate in 1972, he and his wife Margareta used their sailboat extensively until 2020.

Leif Bondesson, Chairman of ITH Förlag, highlights the magazine’s lasting importance in the industry as proof of Bertil’s drive. Jan-Åke Johansson remembers him as a thoughtful and helpful person, and Jon Sandström stresses how much Bertil meant both to ITH and to Fluid Scandinavia.
