Hägglunds Thunder – the electric motor that takes direct drive to the next level

Hägglunds Thunder represents a step forward for electric direct drive in industry

Bosch Rexroth launches Hägglunds Thunder, a permanent magnet synchronous motor that combines electrical efficiency with Hägglunds’ renowned torque, robustness, and reliability. The motor paves the way for fully electric solutions – from lower power levels up to the megawatt range – without compromising on performance.

⚙️ Key Features

  • Variable speed from standstill to maximum via frequency control. A typically low nominal speed of 30 rpm, but Thunder can reach up to 300 rpm while maintaining efficiency.

  • High nominal torque of up to 200 kNm – also capable of handling overloads of 200% for up to 60 seconds.

  • Power output up to 4300 kW when torque and speed are combined at the shaft.

  • Integrated sensors enable continuous monitoring, resulting in minimal maintenance and maximum reliability.

🔧 Benefits & Applications

Hägglunds Thunder is designed for demanding industrial applications where high torque, precise speed control, and reliability are critical. Examples of applications include:

  • Crushers, mills, and drums

  • Belt conveyors and ball mills in mineral processing

  • Furnaces, chippers, and mixing equipment

  • Power generation: cooling tower fans, slurry pumps, chemical pumps, etc.
