New software from Parker improves control of Parker servo drives

Parker has launched new software for its PSD servo drives, focusing on improved control, greater flexibility and simplified commissioning. The update is aimed at industrial applications where high accuracy, stable force transmission and efficient multi-axis motion are critical.

Servo drives are used in machines for applications such as pressing, assembly, winding, cutting and material handling. In these applications, the servo drive controls motor movement in terms of position, speed, torque and force, often in coordinated interaction between multiple axes.

The new software introduces dedicated modes for torque control and force control. Torque control dynamically switches between current control and position control depending on the load, ensuring stable operation in applications such as pressing and winding. Force control is based on an external sensor input and enables closed-loop regulation with consistent and precise force, which is essential for sensitive processes such as press fitting and forming.

For multi-axis systems, the control functionality has been expanded with new synchronization features. One axis can now follow another with precise positional alignment or apply corrective motions while the system is running. This enables more flexible machine designs with fewer mechanical compromises.

The control system is built on a modular architecture in which multiple drive modules share a common DC bus. This allows for efficient energy usage and simplifies the design of multi-axis machines. The same functionality is also available in a standalone single-axis version for smaller systems.

The software also includes improved tools for commissioning and diagnostics. A multi-axis configuration tool simplifies setup and coordination of multiple drives, while integrated signal analysis enables system tuning without the need for external measurement equipment. Support for network variables further facilitates data exchange and condition monitoring within machine systems.

By integrating more functionality directly into the servo drive, Parker has created a solution that combines higher performance with ease of use. The result is shorter commissioning times, improved process control and increased system efficiency in demanding industrial environments
