Danfoss PVMX – Next-Generation Axial Piston Pump for Industrial Applications

Danfoss has launched the latest generation of the PVMX axial piston pump, a medium-duty open-circuit pump that sets a new standard for performance, efficiency, and flexibility in industrial hydraulic systems. The model offers significant improvements compared to previous series and competing products and is specifically designed for demanding machine applications.

High Pressure, High Speed, and Low Noise

The PVMX pump delivers continuous operating pressures of up to 350 bar and peak pressures up to 420 bar, providing high power density and enabling smaller, more efficient actuators within the system.
With a maximum speed capability of up to 3,800 rpm, the pump is well suited for modern servo and high-frequency control systems where fast response and frequent cycling are essential.
Despite its powerful performance, the PVMX features a measured noise level as low as 72 dB(A) at 280 bar and 3,000 rpm, contributing to a quieter working environment and easier compliance with noise regulations.

Energy-Efficient Operation and Smart Control

The pump’s variable displacement design allows power output to be precisely matched to application requirements, significantly reducing energy consumption compared to fixed-speed pump systems — with reported savings of up to 70–80% in certain duty cycles.
Its two-quadrant capability enables the pump to operate as a motor, allowing energy recovery from the load during retraction or deceleration phases. This increases overall system efficiency and can lead to lower operating costs and reduced heat generation.

Seamless Integration and System Flexibility

The PVMX pump design supports advanced features such as over-center operation, enabling flow reversal without the need for complex valve systems — simplifying hydraulic circuit design and reducing component count.
The pump is also optimized for variable speed technology, making it ideal for applications where energy management, precision, and dynamic performance are critical.

Applications and Use Cases

The new PVMX pump is particularly suitable for applications where both performance and energy efficiency are key requirements, including:

  • Presses and forming machines

  • Injection molding machines

  • Material handling equipment

  • Hydraulic test benches

  • Mobile and industrial machinery

These systems benefit from the pump’s combination of power, precision, and flexibility, as well as the ability to utilize recovered energy within the system.

Summary

With high performance, low energy consumption, quiet operation, and advanced control capabilities, the Danfoss PVMX axial piston pump provides a robust solution for next-generation hydraulic systems. It is designed to give OEMs and machine builders the tools to develop more efficient, responsive, and sustainable machinery — while keeping operating costs and environmental impact under control.
