100 Years of Innovation – Sundins Skis Laid the Foundation for Sunfab
On August 28, 1925, on his 25th birthday, entrepreneur Eric Sundin founded Sundins Skis in Arbrå. What began as a local ski factory has today grown into an international industrial company – Sunfab, exporting to more than 60 countries.
From the very beginning, the business was shaped by Sundin’s technical curiosity and inventive spirit. The ski factory expanded quickly, and in 1936 production moved to Varvet in Hudiksvall, where the company is still based today. During the 1940s, as many as 100 skis per hour were manufactured thanks to machines and methods developed by Eric himself.
But ski production was only the starting point. With the same innovative drive, Sundin went on to create several world-first products:

1947 – the world’s first mobile hydraulic crane was launched through HIAB.

1954 – the world’s first piston pump for mobile hydraulics was introduced by Sunfab, a solution that still lies at the heart of the company.
Today, Sunfab is a global brand with operations far beyond Hälsingland, yet with roots firmly grounded in the entrepreneurship of the 1920s. In the Hudiksvall office, Eric Sundin’s old desk still remains – a reminder that big ideas often start on a small scale.
This year, the company celebrates 100 years of innovation, entrepreneurship, and technical development.
