Bucher Hydraulics Introduces HELAX – Hydraulic-Electric direct cylinder drive

Bucher Hydraulics has introduced its new product HELAX (“Hydraulic-Electric Linear Axis”), based on its AX technology, designed for high-performance linear motion applications in the power range of 20–300 kW.

The system is built on a hydrostatic transmission principle where electrical energy is converted into hydraulic power with very high efficiency. This enables applications that demand high force, low speed, and exceptional precision.

Key Features:

  • The AX pump offers minimal friction and virtually no wear, even at very low speeds and under high loads.

  • The modular design allows adaptation to various cylinder sizes and applications.

  • The system provides efficient energy management and enables energy recovery, achieving a total efficiency of up to 84%.

  • Installation and integration are comparable to those of an electric drive system – even though the technology is hydraulic.

What It Means for Equipment Manufacturers and System Integrators
For industries requiring linear motion with high power and precision – such as testing and production machinery, lifting and handling equipment, or applications involving heavy moving masses – HELAX offers an alternative that combines the strength of hydraulics with the controllability and efficiency of electric drives.

Bucher Hydraulics notes that HELAX can be integrated with standard control systems (such as CAN-bus) and that users do not need to be hydraulic specialists. This lowers the threshold for utilizing the advantages of hydraulic power in modern solutions.

Summary
The HELAX system from Bucher Hydraulics represents a clear step toward merging hydraulics and electrification in high-performance linear solutions. For markets where efficiency, precision, and flexibility are key requirements, HELAX presents a compelling new option.
