Danfoss Launches X1P – The Next Generation of Open-Circuit Piston Pumps

Danfoss Power Solutions has introduced the new X1P pump family, a series of open-circuit axial piston pumps designed for mid-range mobile machinery. The series is the first built on the new X1 platform, which is set to replace and further develop Danfoss’s open-circuit pump lineup in the coming years.

The X1P pumps target compact equipment such as skid-steer loaders, compact excavators, telehandlers, and material-handling machinery—applications that require high hydraulic performance within limited installation space.

New Design Focused on Compactness

One of the standout improvements in the X1P series is its compact construction. Danfoss has developed a new, patent-pending swash-plate bearing system that reduces the overall pump length by up to 25 mm on the 75 cc model compared to similar pumps. This provides machine manufacturers with greater design flexibility and new opportunities where space constraints were previously a challenge.

The pump is built in frame size C and covers displacement sizes of 45, 60, and 75 cc. It is optimized for operating speeds of approximately 2,400–2,600 rpm and is rated for operating pressures up to around 280 bar, depending on size.

Enhanced Controllability and Hydraulic Response

Beyond its compact design, Danfoss has placed strong emphasis on improving hydraulic precision. The X1P exhibits significantly reduced hysteresis—up to 80% lower than earlier generations. This results in more stable flow delivery and better predictability, improving machine control and response during both slow and rapid movements.

This is particularly beneficial for applications requiring precise maneuvering, such as lifting or digging in confined environments.

Lower Noise Levels and Increased Operator Comfort

Another important improvement is reduced noise. By optimizing the pump housing and mounting geometry, Danfoss has achieved a reduction of up to 3 dBA in hydraulic noise at typical operating speeds. This enhances both operator comfort and the overall worksite environment.

High Temperature Tolerance and Improved Durability

The X1P series is engineered to handle higher operating temperatures. The standard version supports continuous fluid temperatures of up to 115 °C, reducing the need for oversized cooling systems and increasing reliability in demanding operating conditions.

Danfoss has also improved serviceability by reusing components and service kits from existing pump families. This reduces downtime and simplifies both maintenance and parts inventory management.

Flexible and Modular Platform

The X1P is designed for maximum flexibility. The platform allows for quick adaptation between different control types, shaft options, and port orientations. For OEMs, this simplifies production and enables pumps to be configured for specific requirements without extensive customization.

Built for the Future of Hydraulics

The launch of the X1P series marks the beginning of a broader technological shift at Danfoss. The platform is expected to grow with additional displacements and features, ultimately offering a complete, future-ready range of open-circuit pumps.

With its focus on compact design, efficiency, modularity, and improved ergonomics, the X1P positions itself as a modern “workhorse” for mobile hydraulics—built to meet today’s requirements and tomorrow’s machine demands.
